First of all, when it comes to degree program selection, you have to prioritize your passion and interest because studying in college is really more difficult and more serious than when you were in grade school and high school. It would be fun when you are enjoying what you study.
It is not necessary to follow your parents’ choice of degree program because you are the one who will study and not they. You will just waste your precious time taking courses which is not your passion because it’s just like taking chances while waiting for no possible outcome in your life.
Different degree programs may confused your mind but there is always a course that would really catch your attention and will make you decide and say, “This is it. This is my choice. And this is my course.”

After deciding for your right course, it is best to pick a university where you feel right and what you think has the most important values to you. It is also best to search for the specialty courses of a specific university where you want to study because universities can influence your life in so many ways. It is important that you spend a lot of time assessing and comparing with other places to see what institution will suit you and only you. It should be your very personal choice.
But finding a college or university where you will fit perfectly is the best buddy of the degree program selection. Actually, it is even a lot harder because you have to take college entrance test before you enter the university. These admission exams will measure your capability of studying in their universities because your grade in their tests would be the basis whether you are qualified or not for their specific standards.

Also, when you are choosing a university, you have to consider the financial status of your family because you are not the one who would pay for your expenses; it is your parents who would supply your needs.
Lastly, you should always have a back-up plan in case that you may not get into the university you have expected to. And this is why it is very important to have a well-researched back-up university as your second choice. Failing in the exam of your first choice university is not the end of the world. You can also be extremely happy with your second choice and it may well have been a better decision than your first choice. And remember that if you begin your course and you decide you have made a mistake, it is never too late to change your plans.
What matters most, is that you will be able to graduate and obtain a college diploma wherever school will you study in the future.
You just need to be true to yourself and, “Make your passion as your profession,” as quoted by Rancchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad or Rancho from the movie, 3 Idiots.
Just always believe in yourself and have faith with the Almighty God and everything will happen perfectly at the perfect time.
