Have you ever explored the different planets including the planet Earth? This is what the Little Prince experienced on his journey to different weird planets.
The Little Prince is written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This is a fictional story of the Little Prince’s adventures on different planets wherein he met different types of people like a king, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer. When he came to Earth, he was deployed in the desert of Sahara and met the pilot who once dreamed to be a painter. This pilot had experienced an airplane crash. As the pilot was worrying about the damage in his aircraft, the little prince approached the pilot to draw him a sheep. The two became friends. The pilot discovered that the blond boy came from the Asteroid B-612. While staying on Earth, the little prince found a garden full of roses and met a snake and a fox. He tamed this fox who taught him the important things in life. On the eighth day in the desert, the pilot and the little boy found a well with water that fed their hearts and their bodies. Before the anniversary of the little prince on Earth, the pilot has fixed his aircraft and the little prince also decided to return to his rose by letting the snake to bite him. He fell noiselessly to the sand. The next day, the pilot cannot find the prince’s body and thought that he already returned to his asteroid. After what happened, he just reminisced their blissful moments together.
This novel means that friendship never ends even though a friend left you in your life. Though he is already gone, his memories will forever last and stay in your heart. He may not be there by your side but he will keep inspiring you to continue and enjoy this wonderful race of life. This is what the pilot experienced when the little prince left him. He has been comforted by the stars in which he believed that he can hear the little prince’s sweet laughter. And I personally learned in the story that through exploration we can seek enlightenment from other people. The pilot and the little prince maybe stranded in the desert but because of it, they have known their own characters and their roles in this world more clearly. I also learned that relationships teach us to be responsible. The novel shows that the little prince really cares about the rose and it was the main reason why the prince returned to his planet. It also shows that what you give to others is even more important and more special than what others will give back in return.
In the novel, there are many wonderful and relatable quotes and here are some which were stated by the pilot, the little prince, the flower and the fox. “To forget a friend is sad. Not everyone has had a friend. And if I forget him, I may become like the grown-ups who are no longer interested in anything but figures. . .”
“The lesson which I pass on by this means is worth all the trouble it has cost me.”
“Of course I love you,” the flower said to him. “It is my fault that you have not known it all the while. That is of no importance. But you– you have been just as foolish as I. Try to be happy. . . let the glass globe be. I don’t want it anymore.”
“One only understands the things that one tames,” said the fox. “Men have no more time to understand anything. They buy things all ready-made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more. If you want a friend, tame me. . . ”
“Goodbye,” said the fox. “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
“The thing that is important is the thing that is not seen. . . ”
While reading the novel, I realized that you should enjoy every moment being with your friends. Since true friends are hard to find, we should treasure them as much as we can until the end. I also learned that to make a relationship stronger, you have to be responsible for each other. In a relationship, it shouldn’t be only the boy or the girl who works out for it, it should be both and the understanding should be mutual between the two to avoid arguments and conflicts. I have enjoyed reading the novel because I can really relate with the story and also, I was amused with its characters. The novel was full of inspiration, lessons and thought to ponder and that’s why The Little Prince is a well-recommended novel for everyone.
